Iometer

Background

Iometer is an I/O subsystem measurement and characterization tool for single computers and cluster systems. It is widely used within the storage industry.

Originally created by Intel, the Iometer software was announced in February 1998. In 2001 Intel discontinued development and subsequently handed the software over to the Open Source Development Lab (OSDL) for release under the Intel Open Source License. In November 2001 the OSDL registered a project at SourceForge.net and released an initial version.

In 2002 I got involved in bugfixing. Experiencing no further development of the software I started bundling patches from me and others in a new tarball - providing it on my homepage. Getting other individuals involved we finally relaunched the project in Febrary 2003. Since then the software is maintained by an international group of individuals.
